Healing Movement

Pt. 1.

Healing movement sounds in a way abstract and at the same time very easy.

To me the concept is very easy and essential at the same time.

As we breathe, we move. Anything that is alive moves. Immobility is a sign of ageing and illness, a progression towards “unlifeliness”. On a physical level, I realised this especially in a phase where I couldn’t properly bend my knees due to inflammation and pain. I couldn’t properly move, run, kneel, jump or sit. But knees are made to be moved. And this was also the key to regaining my mobility and ease my inflammation. The original doctor’s advice to keep my knees still and keep my legs up lifted did not do any good to me. A friend once said, if a horse has in injury they need to walk it off.

So healing movement literally is movement that heals. Movement that supports regeneration, circulation, the building of strength and flexibility while not putting more pressure of possibility of injury on to your body. For this to work, you need to be able to listen to your body and all the signals it gives you, that tell you what to do and what to avoid. For everyone their healing movement comes in different versions, depending on what you are able to do: what feels good to you. So it really comes down to a mindfulness practice, being aware and in connection with your body. THE KEY.

I have been working with various private clients on this topic. People from different constitutions, ages, gender and with different ailments. Although I am not a medical doctor and I wouldn’t dare to put a diagnosis onto their conditions, what we have worked on has been like magic for them. No matter if it was an inflamed shoulder, injured knees, or chronic tension and tinnitus. Movement improved and healed.

And as I believe in the interconnection and equal importance of mind, body and soul, this physical ailment, whether it is pain, injury, or immobility, effects all levels. Just as they often appear from one of the realms you would not have suspected it.

As an example, chronic tension and soreness can come just as much from stress, which can be the mind (e.g. work) or the soul (e.g. love, neglect), as it can come from the body (e.g. scoliosis).

A bloated stomach can come just as much from stress (again mind or soul), as it can come from an allergy or poor posture, too tight high waisted pants, spicy food etc. No even here, healing movement is a super effective tool. Not only does it get rid of belatedness, but it reinforces your connection with your mind-body-soul for you to find out very easily and directly where the bloatedness comes from. This helps you to find long term solutions easily.

Body dysmorphia or anxiety around your appearance or body is another thing where healing movement can be of great help. Again, this can stem from as much as from mind and soul, as from body. Imagine you run around bloated all the time? How great does that make you feel in your skin? What is your perception of your figure? How can you ever build visible abs, even if you wanted? How well can you move your center and have a great posture and elegant movement?

But imagine you can build a loving connection with your body by experiencing your self move, your strength, your softness. How your body carries you and is there for you. Imagine how you are able to notice that you actually have a bloated stomach and what causes it. And then are able to get rid of it. How does that change you relationship AND perception of your own body? To start to feel, instead of seeing, your body dimensions. The length of your arms and legs, what they can reach, or the twist and turns or movements you can do that bring back the connection to your center, which is a powerful and useful part of you.

I can go on and on with various examples of where healing movement can change everything.

Now how do you reach healing movement? What is it?
